Life is messy. I'm here to help.
Providing practical, reality-oriented, mental health care for individuals, couples and families.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Employee Assistance Specialist - Clinical (EAS-C), and former trauma chaplain trained to work with individuals, partners, couples and families who struggle in a variety of situations. I have completed Level 3 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, am currently in the process of becoming a Certified Gottman Therapist and use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work. While my practice is general in nature, I specialize in infidelity and addictions - in particular sex, porn and love addiction. As a former trauma chaplain and first responder I also work with pastors, clergy, church leaders as well as police officers, firefighters, dispatchers and hospital personnel.
I utilize an Integrative Psychotherapy (IP) approach which combines both Christian theology and spirituality as well as contemporary psychology. While I do not believe psychology carries the same authority as the Christian faith, I do believe understanding and wisdom can be discovered in both. IP integrates a Christian worldview with behavioral, cognitive and relational models of therapy.
I am reality-oriented and will work with you to walk through the messiness of life. Not all change is positive. Sometimes the best change I can help make happen is the least worst option. The invaluable process I can offer is to walk with you through the bad times and help you not be consumed by them.
I treat the mind, body, and soul.
For example, we might explore:
- How you can best handle emotions well and think more positively (mind)
- How you can improve sleep and nutrition patterns (body)
- How your particular faith practices could benefit you emotionally (soul)
A key concept I have learned while working with people through STRUGGLE is PRESENCE associated with COLLABORATION tailored to each client's individual needs provides the greatest opportunity for HOPE.
As with any relationship, therapy works best when there is trust, mutual respect, and a sense of connection. If you think we may be a good fit to work with one another, call me at 224-639-2607 or email me at Patrick@PatrickAmesCounseling.com to set up a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. This phone call is used to assess the goodness of fit of a therapeutic match, not for treatment or diagnosis. If we find that we are not a good fit at the end of this phone call, I will give you referrals of therapists that might be a better match for you.
